American Printing House for the Blind is "the world’s largest nonprofit organization creating accessible learning experiences through educational, workplace, and independent living products and services for people who are blind and visually impaired." Among other activities, it creates accessible textbooks and learning objects for students with visual impairments.

AER is a profession organization for those who provide services to persons with vision loss. Many of the resources are only for members. However, if you are one, this site can be very useful.

Customized reading: "Customize your reading experience with ebooks in audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, large font, and other formats." Teachers can get textbooks through Bookshare. Right now, Bookshare is free to "qualified US students and schools." (Qualifications given on the website.)

DVIDB is a advocacy organization and source of community for teachers of students who have visual impairments or deafblindness. This website contains the professional standards for the CEC, including the Initial Specialty Sets for Blind and Visual Impairments, and Deafblindness

Information on NIMAS, a technical standard to ensure instructional electronic files are able to be converted to accessible formats. Includes informaiton on updates since its mandate in IDEA 2004. Also provides information on NIMAC (National Instructional Materials Access Center)

Part of the National Institutes of Health. Engages in research "to prevent, treat, or even reverse vision loss."

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), part of the Library of Congress, provides braille and recorded materials to people who cannot see regular print or handle print materials. This is a free service.

"Perkins School for the Blind teaches children on campus and supports students and teachers in public schools across the U.S., focusing on academic, social and self-advocacy skill building."
