Methods for Organizing Your Reading

Since you will be reading A LOT of information, it's important to have a consistent and effective method of recording the main elements of your sources and other important points gleaned from the sources. Below are two ways to record your research. The first is a link to a Walden University page that explains use of a matrix; this is especially helpful for the natural and social sciences and medical fields. The second, from Oregon State University's Writing 121 website, may be more helpful to those in the arts and humanities.

Evaluating Sources

Just a reminder about reading, viewing, or hearing any source at any point in your academic and personal lives: You must evaluate the source! Is it credible and is it an appropriate source to inform your given need?
