It is important to follow copyright law when using material other than the professor's personal material in an online class (or face to face classes). How does one know what and how to use material? This guide should help.

In a nutshell:

• The following can be used without limits
  • Items in the public domain
  • Government publications
• Other material can be used, if it's
  • Licensed with a Creative Commons License (with conditions)
  • Covered under TEACH Act, and/or
  • Falls under "Fair Use"
