Generative AI and ChatGPT

Generative AI

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a relatively new technology that is developing rapidly. Like the internet, these AI tools—such as ChatGPT—are neither inherently good nor bad when it comes to finding and using information. Instead, they represent a new way for us to interact with information.

This guide primarily refers to ChatGPT; however, in most cases, the guidelines can also be applied to other generative AI tools, such as Scribe, Bard, Gemini, Claude, and others.

Keep in mind that generative AI is evolving quickly. While this guide aims to stay up-to-date, some information may be outdated by the time you read it.

Consult your professor

Please first confirm with your professor that using ChatGPT or other content produced by generative artificial intelligence (AI) is acceptable before using it for any course assignments.

Look for a statement in the class's syllabus or ask your professor.

Also, never disclose personal information in ChatGPT or similar generative AI.
