What is a Read and Publish Deal?

What is a "Read and Publish Deal" (also called a Transformative Agreement)?

OhioLINK has Read and Publisher Deals with Cambridge University Press, IOP (Institute of Physics) Publishing, Wiley, Springer, and Elsevier.

"Read"

It provides OhioLINK libraries with expanded full text access to important published research from Cambridge University Press, IOP (Institute of Physics) Publishing, Wiley, Springer, and Elsevier.

"Publish"

Authors from participating OhioLINK institutions can publish their articles as open access in all eligible journals, without any limit and at no cost to the author and at no additional cost to any institution.

All faculty (full-time, part-time, and adjunct), administrators, and hourly workers at Shawnee State University are eligible because we are an OhioLINK institution subscribing to the Electronic Journal Center (EJC).

Use the tabs in the sidebar for details on each publisher's agreement and information on their publishing process.

What is Open Access (OA)?

What is Open Access (OA) Publishing?

Open access (OA) is a way to publish that makes content freely available to read with no subscription or access fees, as well as licensing the work to allow for reuse.  OhioLINK's Read & Publish deals with Cambridge, IOP, and Wiley applies to articles published gold open access in either fully open access journals or hybrid open access journals. Springer, and Elsevier deals appliy to articles in hybrid open access journals, but NOT fully open access journals.

Open access usually requires the author to pay an article publishing charge (APC). This APC allows the journal to make the article openly available without any subscription or fee to read.  These articles may be published in either a fully gold open access journal (in which all articles are open access, so there is never a subscription fee for the journal) or a hybrid journal (in which authors have the option to publish as open access, so that the journal has some open access articles and some subscription access articles).

Again, all faculty (full-time, part-time, and adjunct), administrators, and hourly workers at Shawnee State University are eligible because we are an OhioLINK institution subscribing to the Electronic Journal Center (EJC).
