As you know, the cost of textbooks and other course materials can be prohibitively high for many college students. To help address this challenge, Open Educational Resources (OER) offer a valuable alternative as you develop or re-evaluate your courses.
The Hewlett Foundation defines Open Educational Resources as “high-quality teaching, learning, and research materials that are free for people everywhere to use and repurpose.”
OhioLINK, the academic library consortium of which SSU is a member, leads several initiatives under Affordable Learning Ohio to help make course materials more affordable for Ohio students. You can visit the website below for details about these initiatives, including a searchable database of affordable learning resources.
If you’re interested in exploring Open Educational Resources for your courses, please contact your liaison librarian. They will be happy to collaborate with you to identify materials that align with your course objectives.
