Literature Review Resources

This tab is especially helpful for students in the masters in mathematics program as they write their literature review.

Visit the Writing a Literature Review guide for even more help.

Discovery Service

You'll notice in the "Find Articles" tab on the left side of the page, I have a link to Discovery Service. This is also the default search box on the library homepage. It can be helpful as you start to survey the literature and identify trends and aspects of your focused topic that you may want to include in your literature review. This is especially true for topics that have ties to more than one discipline, like mathematics and education.

Specific Databases

Note that within the "Find Articles" tab, I also have a box with links to subject specific databases, including education databases. These may be helpful to many of you as you dive deeper into the research. Searching within the Journal for Research Mathematics Education is located under the Education Databases & Videos section of the Databases box.

EndNote Web and Literature Review Matrices

Please consider EndNote Web and using a literature review matrix to organize your sources. The boxes below provide this help.

EndNote Web

EndNote Web

EndNote Web is a citation management tool. This allows you to keep all of your articles organized in one place. A helpful Cite While You Write Word plugin is available to help you create citations within a Word document. Here are a couple videos that explain these.

Note: The general EndNote Web video was recorded before the library's website was updated. EndNote Web is currently found in the "Research Tools" box.

Literature Review Matrix

Literature Review Matrix

It can helpful to fill out a matrix with the articles you consider integrating in your literature review. This can help keep your thoughts organized and identify ways to structure your literature review.

Here's a website that shows an example matrix as well as blank templates.
